Pima cotton originated in the southwestern United States in the early 1900s. It was initially developed by crossbreeding Egyptian cotton with American Upland cotton. The name "Pima" comes from the Pima Native American tribe in Arizona who, with an ancestral knowledge of cotton cultivation, were the first to cultivate the crop. They helped the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) with its pilot project in the early 1900s and were critical to its development.

Cotton Count is a way to tell how thin or thick a piece of cotton yarn is. Imagine if you had a long piece of yarn, and you measured how many bunches of 840 yards (like the length of eight football fields) would fit in one pound of it. If more bunches fit, the yarn is thinner, like a skinny string. If fewer bunches fit, the yarn is thicker, like a fat rope!
